What do you do while the clothes are fluffing in the dryer and you are waiting before taking them out to fold them?
Do you have paper and pens, color crayons and chalk sitting on your table where you’re waiting to fold clothes?
I do.
I love to write Acrostics while waiting in the laundry room for the clothes to fluff so I can fold them wrinkle free.

Where do we go from here? How do we keep living in this empty, vacuous house without Owen? He filled all the empty spaces in our home and hearts. We are devastated. Can’t think future plans right now.

We have been so blessed this week to have the love and hugs, flowers and cards, calls and caring of so many of our family & friends. They have encouraged us to grieve, of course, but “Don’t get stuck.” In Owen’s sweet memory Move On… Laugh again, Love again, Rejoice again, Snuggle again with Another Boston Terrier.
We’re not quite ready yet… But God is helping us heal. Thank you, God’s angels. We love you!

Happy February, my friends! I hope your 2024 has begun well. If you follow my blog, you know Bob & I had a wonderful beginning for the new year as we traveled and visited family & friends in CA.
Now we are home and settling in – – with Christmas decor finally put away and the house clean and semi-organized again. It’s time now to take away that “semi-” & get serious! I am sharing a Word for 2024 with my blogging friend, Sue Newell at Sue’s LIFE Journal – Sharing LIFE Our word is SIFT.
No, our “Sift” is not intended to be a sifter. Ours is an acronym with each letter representing something we intend to focus on this 2024 year. Let me tell you about that first letter – S – for Simplify!
My office is not quite that bad… but it’s cluttered. My closets are overloaded with clothes I should give away. My storage room downstairs is full of things I really don’t need. My filing system lacks the kind of organization that it should have. So, this is the year to take care of those problems. Organize – and simplify!
In today’s entry for Turning Point, Dr. David Jeremiah inspired me to begin with prayer and purpose. He quoted an important verse from scripture:
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life. 2 Peter 1:3, NIV
He put that concept of “NEED” into a Godly perspective as he reminded me of a Maslow concept. Dr. Jeremiah wrote:
“In 1943, Abraham Maslow, the son of Jewish immigrants to America, published his famous diagram illustrating the hierarchy of human needs. It was a triangle that explained our physical needs, our need for safety and love, and our need for esteem and for self-actualization.”
Then Dr. Jeremiah inserted a principle you and I believe. He said, “But Maslow was a humanist who neglected to mention our spiritual needs as described in the Bible.”
The patriarch Jacob said, “God has been gracious to me and I have all I need.” (Genesis 33:11, NIV).
As I apply that word, “Simplify” to my 2024 days, I will keep a clear definition of NEED in mind! And I will remember I have MORE than I need!
Has God inspired you to SIMPLIFY your life in 2024?
Why did my Bible study this morning suggest it’s not just OK, but advisable that sometimes we feel uncomfortable?
I thought of my son-in-law, Andre’, when I thought of discomfort!
But then I realized, No, not that kind of discomfort!
The scripture that prompted the remark about being uncomfortable is this one:
“The Samaritan woman said to [Jesus], ‘You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?’ (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans).”
John 4:9 (NIV)
Obviously, the woman was uncomfortable talking to Jesus. But Jesus intentionally engaged in conversation with the woman. According to Ericka Loynes, who wrote the commentary for the devotional in Guideposts “Mornings With Jesus,” His intent seemed to be to “change the landscape of the current culture.”
“Embracing change can be difficult,” Loynes went on to write. She acknowledged, “The more often I get out of my comfort zone, the easier it will be to adjust to the changes around me.”
Stepping out may seem scary, but as this meme reminds us, it is imperative if we want to become stronger and grow. So, Loynes ends her commentary by asking the reader to take a faith step: “Ask Jesus to help you get comfortable with being uncomfortable.”
It’s worth thinking about, don’t you think? Like Jesus, who can you step out and talk to today who is not among those you generally hold in conversation?
Try it! Try stepping out of your comfort zone.
There are plenty of folks out there who could use your brand of positivity! Do you see folks who look like they could use some encouragement? Follow Jesus’ example!
You may find some comfort in being uncomfortable. I’m gonna try it. You with me?

My special gift is hospitality. I love having family and friends come to spend time with us. Here is our dear 1980-81 AFS son, Christian Zufferey (ZuZu), from Switzerland. No, he’s no stranger to us!!
(Our DeAna married his first cousin!! What a love story that is!)
This week DeAna, and her hubby, Andre’ surprised us by arriving with ZuZu and his wife, Celia, for a four day stay. Here they are this morning… leaving us (boo-hoo!)
But, we were blessed to have them come and spend those days (just not nearly long enough) – and to have Chef Andre’ prepare great meals!
How wonderful it was also to have our grandson, Mike, and his wife, Tania, with us for a week this month. They were so helpful!!
Now this hospitality business would have a full opportunity to be put into practice IF our son Ty & his wife, Monika, would come!
The good news is that Peter, one of Bob’s wrestling students from back in the 1970’s in CA, will be joining us in October for awhile. Yay!
Why don’t you consider Letting me use my favorite trait, HOSPITALITY, On you one of these days?
Today is Labor Day in the USA. It’s a day to thank our workers. Thank all who make life better By their diligence … never shirkers!
Regardless of the job they have, They perform with willing heart. I’m filled with gratitude for them. They carefully do their part.
During COVID we took special care To thank our healthcare workers all. We should continue to thank them And all the others whether large or small.
No job is less important than another. All are crucial for the bottom line. Teamwork, passion, determination Are ingredients that make the results shine.
But the worker who inspires me most Is the on the job person who strives To make the world a better place By interacting with others’ lives.
Yes, it can be done at home sometimes, But what about when you want to dine out? The chef and wait staff better be there, Or you’ll be high and dry… without!
So, today I want to shout out a thanks To all the workers who make life sweeter. Here is one… our Dolly Wolly in Switzerland. You should go to her place and meet her!!
This is what it looked like then they bought it. Now the restaurant has taken on a new look. And De’s husband, Andre’ is the chef who Puts out superb dishes – he’s quite the cook!
Here are De and Andre’ with some family Sitting down to enjoy a meal… You can tell by the empty plates and smiles How good it was; how it made them feel!
So, Happy Labor Day, all you workers Who strive to serve the public with care- Whether out in front and quite visible Or hidden in back rooms, with work to share!
We appreciate the way you aim to please With passion and with determination. What you do is important and beneficial Regardless of your chosen occupation.

We came home to a Montana sunset That was a treat indeed for our eyes. My friend in North Carolina sent her sunset – Sadly Canadian fires created her smokey skies.
But the blessing in her mind was It could be a whole lot worse. My daughter in the Baltimore area showed The smoke there is a real curse.
Meanwhile, returning to our home A rainbow greeted us as we drew near – God’s promise wrapped in the scene – A reason always to give a cheer!!
