Hands On Christmas
I am having such fun!!
My Senior Buddy and I had our fingernails decorated for Christmas. We are ready for a Hands On Christmas. Reaching out to spread a little cheer. Smile! Our pinkies sport a snowman on one hand and Santa on the other. My senior friend (90) is the coolest Great-Grandma on the planet!!
Have you heard of the Senior Companion program? I had not heard of it until I moved here to Montana from California. It is an active program in our area. Allowing seniors who no longer drive and who live alone to remain independent in their homes, we pair up seniors (55 and over) with other seniors who need help. I joined with the intention of “giving” but I receive so much more than I give. Isn’t that the way it is with LOVE?
Merry Christmas! Have a Hands On Christmas!
Here is my dear friend. What a joy it is to know her!
If this World were my Classroom
If this World were my Classroom.
I was introduced this morning to this amazing blogger by my friend, Russ Towne. Thank you, Russ. If this World were my Classroom, I would use “A Leaf in Springtime” as one of our required textbooks. Enjoy and be inspired, my friends, by this amazing, authentic, spiritually uplifting photography and writing!
Abounding in Hope
In this month’s Guideposts magazine (December 2013), two quotes from “The Up Side” caught my eye. These quotes from positive thinkers fit right in to the theme of our sermon at church yesterday. The first was by Jon Gordon, “If you think your best days are behind you, they are. If you think your best days are ahead of you, they are.”
The second quote that caught my attention was by columnist Marilyn Vos Savant, “Being defeated is often only a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.” Yes, it is the giving up that signals defeat… and that was the main message of the sermon we heard yesterday. It was titled, “Abounding in Hope.” I took these notes while I listened:
If I think I’m not good enough,
If I quit before I try,
I tell myself I’m a quitter.
That message is a lie.
The lie lived on inside me;
My confidence suffered most.
I thought I was a quitter.
I began to lose all hope.
Despair and hopelessness consumed me;
I felt useless as can be.
I knew I wasn’t good enough
To change anything even one degree.
To enter Hell is to give up Hope,
According to Dante who penned those words.
The Bible tells us otherwise.
With God, hopelessness is absurd.
Realize that God is in control.
Whatever our future holds near,
Remember God won’t abandon you.
Trust in His Hope and have cheer!
God will take care of you.
God will give you joy, peace, and power.
Allow God to work inside you.
His Hope is yours – every minute – every hour.
You may not be good enough
If you set out to go it alone,
But you don’t need to solo it.
Take God’s Hope and make it your own.
Amen?
Amen!
Love is Everywhere
GONE
Gone are the robins
Gone is the fall
Gone are the leaves
The wind took them all.
Gone is the turkey
The cranberry, too
But love’s never gone
When I think of you.
HERE
Here is December
Here is the tree
Here are the presents
With love wrapped by me.
Here are the bright lights
Here candles glow
Here is the wreath
Here comes the snow!
THERE
There are the shoppers
Siftin’ the pickins
From Black Friday frenzy
Peckin’ like chickens.
Plucking a bargain
Spending their dough
There are the shoppers
Where is the glow?
EVERYWHERE
Looking for the perfect gift?
The right thing to share?
Don’t look in shopping malls;
You won’t find it there.
Looking for a pocket watch
To help him count the hours?
Looking for the magic fly
To boost his fishing powers?
Looking for a spiffy shirt
To guard him from the cold?
He has clothes enough to spare.
That’s not the trick, I’m told.
Don’t go shop in super stores
For the perfect gift to share;
Just point him to God’s love and yours –
He’ll find it everywhere!
HAVE A BLESSED, LOVE-FILLED DECEMBER!
