Beautiful Connections

Staying in contact
Oh, beautiful connections
Commonalities

Happy with Judy Parks

Yesterday we went
To see friends in Sheridan
Lovely connections

Today I texted
With Elaina and Katy
They’re headed for Disneyland

Staying connected
With the folks you love the most
Makes life worth living

To stay in touch with loved ones
Keep your friends close by

Our DollyWolly, DeDe

Grateful for your kids who care
Enough to call you

Happily receive
Photos of their vacation
Wishing you were there

Me with Bob, my hubby for 62 years

Roll With Life

Relax! Everything’s gonna be okay.
Rest … things are coming your way.
Open your heart; love’s here to stay.
Everything’s coming together on this day.

“… to those loved by God the Father,
called and kept safe by Jesus Christ,
Relax! Everything’s gonna be alright.
Rest, everything’s coming together.
Open your hearts; Love is on its way.”

Jude 1:1-2 (MSG)

Relax and roll with the waves of life.
Let go of any tensions or strife.
Go hug your husband or wife,
Or find a neighbor whose troubles are rife.

Sit and do nothing at all.
Let your mind wander and sprawl.
Relax and dream to enthrall
The birds who come to your whistled call.

In these days of political strife
With pundants telling us how to think
It’s easy to get drawn off balance
Easy to feel we’re drowning – gonna sink!

BUT, we’re not!!
Read on…

Guideposts devotional, “Mornings With Jesus”
elaborated on this theme today.
Suzanne Davenport Tietjen wrote,
“My soaking tub isn’t very big, but it’s deep –
deep enough to float in.
Floating might be my favorite thing now –
but that would surprise my mother.
She thought I’d never master it when I was a child.
I was fine if my parent’s or swimming teacher’s arms
supported me, but I panicked whenever they tried
to transition me to floating on my back solo…

“Finally Mom convinced me to
practice in the Gulf of Mexico,
saying that I’d float higher in salt water.
The difference was probably miniscule,
but … I relaxed enough to lie back,
rock on the waves, and float.
All I needed to do was not do anything…

“It seems like a paradox, this doing something
by relaxing into doing nothing.
And paradoxically, I struggle with this
in my walk with Jesus. I want to do.
Jesus wants me to just be.
To relax and roll with the waves of life.
There is no need to be tense or on guard.
… Lean back, let go, and trust Him that
everything’s going to be all right.”

Today you are invited to lean on Jesus.
Trust Him to help you roll with life.
Lean back. Let go.
Everything’s gonna be alright!

God bless you!

JanBeek

Wake Up, Muse!

My muse has been asleep
My muse has been absent
I’ve been in a funk
My muse just up and went

Ever since my pup died
I can’t seem to get inspired
In all the world’s turmoil
I think my muse expired

But then I looked around
To see how I am blessed
I told my weary self that
This is just a test

He’s my Muse!

Ah-hah! He never left me
It was I who strayed away
Return to Faith’s assurance
And “Bee a Light” today!

I looked back at days gone by
To a time when I felt fine
And found a helpful poem
I’m adopting today as mine.

It was inspired by His Word
I read the Bible every day
Now I must remember to apply
The Words God has to say!

2 Corinthians 4:6 a

For it is God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness…”

I Can Let My Light Shine
(Written in December 2023)

In a world filled with war and hate
I can shine a light of love from me
In a world filled with animosity and division
I can shine a light of unity

In a world filled with hopelessness and despair
I can lift the lamp of hopefulness
In a world filled with fear and worry
I can shine the joy of faithfulness

I can “bee” a light in the darkness
Because the love of Christ shines through
The grim shadows of despair
And that Light also is in you

As a wonderful God-created child
You are part of a magnificent whole
So let that Spirit buried in you
Shine forth from your blessed soul

Your light shines from the Creator
Just as mine sparkles brightly, too
So fill this world with the light of love
Let’s let love’s light shine from me and you!

Amen

My Muse is alive and well.
God Bless You!
Yours is, too!!
Let it shine!!!

Love,
JanBeek

Gracious Friend & Helper

Dear Peter Martin
Our gracious friend and helper
Spent three days with us

Bob’s former student
Like a loving son to us
Came to cheer up “Coach”

His visit cheered us
His help was more than priceless
Where are my pictures?

I videotaped
Weed-whacking and visiting
Wanted to show you

Imagination
Will create you images
My iPhone ate them!

This picture is old
From another visit here
God bless dear Peter!

Are you fortunate
Enough to have such dear friends?
I pray that you are.

Love,
JanBeek

Life is Fragile

Life is so fragile
Only way to handle it
Is with fervent prayer

So reassuring!

We weathered the storm
Of losing a sweet puppy
And now it’s the flu

We are praying that
We can lose this quickly, too
Please give us our health

self care isn t selfish signage
Take care of yourself!

This nasty sore throat
And accompanying cough
Is taking its course

It’s spreading its germs
In willy-nilly fashion
Take care of yourself

“Don’t Neglect Yourself!”
Ephesians 2:10

Love and prayers
for good health
are being sent your way.
Bee well!!

Hugs,
JanBeek

So, slow down your speech
Speak a little louder, please
Bob wants to hear you!

It’s so frustrating
When he catches only half
Of conversations

Someone should invent
Hearing aids that really work
They’d make a billion

How can I hear you
Knock three times on the ceiling
Or twice on the pipes

If my ears aren’t working?

What fun that old song is!
I just had to include it here…
Listen if you can!

A Tribute to Dad

When my dad retired, we threw a big party for him.
I wrote a poem in tribute to him and read it at the gathering.
He lived a difficult decade after that retirement with
one health issue after another slowing him down.
But, his hearty hugs and sweet nature
were always alive and well…
and remembered with
love and gratitude.

Here’s that retirement poem.
It tells you a lot about my
hard-working,
loveable
dad.

A Tribute to Dad on His Retirement

Tonight we’ve come together
To celebrate the start
Of the Third Phase in my dad’s life.
In the Second, most of you played a part.

The First Phase was in Newman
Where Salvador came-a fraum-a.
His childhood was filled with girls,
Five sisters and his mawm-a.

“My Salvador can-a marry anybod;
So all you girls look out-a!”
He picked and chose an outta-state blond.
“No Catholic? No Italian?” they shout-a.

They bought a house in Newman.
Dad delivered milk and bread.
But then he went to Frank’s garage
And worked on cars instead.

My sister, “Saleen”, came along,
And then before you knew it,
“Gaetano” was expected next,
But “Janet” came and blew it!

So, what-a you think? My Salvador
Izza back where first he start-a…
Heeza surrounded by girls-a, a wife and kids.
Mama Mia! Life, sheeza hard-a!!

To make things worse, the war began.
Mom worked at the Bomb Plant
And Dad got into this Plant here.
Now life took a new slant.

The Second Phase had just begun:
Joe, Leo, Melio, and Gene
Had pooled resources with Dad
To sweep the valley clean.

The Tallow Works was something new.
They chose the name Pacific.
We moved out to a barren field
And a smell that was less than terrific.

Our home said, “Office;” the phone rang
From early morn ’til night.
Business boomed while Dad drove truck.
He treated the farmers right.

I used to go with Dad in summer
To Stockton’s butcher shops.
We had a blast together then.
With me, Dad was always tops!

The plant-a, she grew-a; the family, too.
We needed a change. You believed us.
So we moved to Turlock, into a new home.
And Merle came and relieved us.

Through all the years Dad drove the truck,
The wheel and road were part of him.
And then Pacific sold to Petersen.
Don’t you think that was smart of him?

Now he could reap the Union checks,
And get a feel for the other side.
He left the headaches, but kept the friends
And the route; so he’d have to ride.

But now the ride will go new routes.
The Third Phase has begun.
Dad’s ready for a well-earned rest,
‘Cuz his Second Phase was WELL DONE!

Do you think he can rest? Has he learned how?
I’ve never seen Dad sit and shirk.
I’ve never seen Dad happy doing not a thing.
I’ve always seen Dad at his work.

Of course there were times when he had to slow down:
God tapped on his shoulder and said,
“Here’s a wrist break, intestines, something one wrong.
Now rest for a while in your bed!”

The message came through that thick head of his,
And he slept for a moment or few.
But (praise be to God) he enjoyed Bocci Ball
And had time for a play day or two.

So Phase Three will have to be free
To play at some things old and new.
Free to learn how to just come and sit
And simply admire the view.

He’ll still need his friends (you folks sitting here),
And he’ll still work and get behind the wheel,
But he’ll have time to do and go where he wants,
He and Mom … in their new automobile.

I hope that you here will join me now:
Stand! Let’s toast to my Dad; he’s our friend:
“May retirement bring health, laughter and joy,
May you live to a-hundred and ten!”

God Bless You, Dad!
Thanks for being YOU!

Rest in Peace

Happy Father’s Day!
Have a Lovely Sunday…
And I hope you remember your daddy
with love and kindness and fond memories.
If he is still with you, treasure his hugs…
and give him an extra hug from me.

Love,
JanBeek
