World Environment Day

God loves it.
Do we?

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 5 June every year, and is the United Nations‘ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. First held in 1972, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on environmental issues emerging from marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. World Environment Day has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has provided a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and all celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.[1][2]

What Are We Doing?

What are we doing to be sure the earth is healthy?

With the world-wide pandemic, fish are surviving in the waters of Italy again. Skies are clear enough in the cities of China that the residents can once again see the sun.

COVID-19 shut down factories and so air and water pollution cleared. Is this only a temporary improvement of our environment with a temporary upheaval of jobs and production?

What CAN we do?

Can we restore people’s jobs and health and the increase of production while we continue to improve the health of our planet?

That’s what World Environment Day is all about.

One World – One People – One day at a time –
Let’s make a difference!
What can YOU do?

See ya tomorrow.

All One People

All the same stardust –
Part of this vast Pale Blue Dot.
Must work together.

Nationalism
Must give way to unity;
We’re all one people!

Embrace uniqueness
While celebrating sameness.
Live in harmony.

Only when we know
The importance of Oneness
Will we heal our earth.

You’re my bro or sis;
I am your sister-in-love.
So, let’s get along!

Let’s cooperate
With God who wants only good.
We’re all One People!

I want to show you
How much I love our Oneness.
What can I do – huh?

We’re in this salad,
Each adding our own color –
Creating beauty.

It would be boring
If we were all just the same.
Thanks for being YOU!

The earth’s and its people:
Lord, Help us!

Get Well, World!

More on “What’s Important?

Yesterday I posted “What’s Important?” and listed concerns that are most important to me. A year ago I might have answered that question far differently. God, Family, Friends… those will always remain high on my list of “What’s Important?”

But yesterday my #1 answer was Climate Change. I am among a growing number of people world-wide who is realizing how real and devastating this issue is.

As a result of my #1 concern being listed as a “tag” on my blog, I had the opportunity to become familiar with a new (to me) blog site: Climate Change Take Action Now. I thank them for leading me to their link: https://newsonclimatechange.com/

When I logged on there, I was delighted to find a link to DiCaprio’s inspirational speech to the United Nations on the climate change topic:

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Moving Speech on Climate Change

Click on that DiCaprio speech. You’ll be glad you did. It will make you want to join the growing movement to raise awareness of climate change – and see what you can do about it.

We all need to do what we can to save our planet.

What are some ideas you have
to protect and preserve this earth
for future generations?

Our children and grandchildren
and generations to come
are counting on us!

Let’s be sure we don’t let them down.

We love living here
Where deer and antelope roam
It’s Heaven on Earth

How do you feel about the place where you live?

Heaven is Here

I sometimes drift into negative thinking, remembering my shortcomings of the past, projecting them into my present. You don’t ever do that, do you? I engaged in that kind of harmful reminiscing this morning when God hit me upside the head and scolded me: “Knock it off! Open up your devotional for today and see what I have to say!”

OK, OK, I don’t know why I was dredging up that old stuff. Sorry, God! Totally unproductive, I know. OK, what does “Mornings with Jesus” have to say today?

The scripture for today is Philippians 3:13-14, “I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it…” I paused. Taken hold of what? Paul is being pretty vague here, Lord. What should he have taken hold of? Read on, Jan! OK, OK…  “But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal…”  Just a minute, Lord. What goal? I can understand the bit about forgetting what is behind. I can see the wisdom in understanding that we can’t change one single thing about the past and so it is pointless to dwell on it. But, how do I strain toward the goal if I am not sure what the goal is?

“Beeeee paaaayshunt!!” God urged. Read on!

“… the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

There! Now, let me read that again. “I do not consider myself YET to have taken hold of IT. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:13-14 (emphasis mine)

Now I get it! “It” is the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward. Heaven is the prize. And, the best news of all… Heaven is right here! Right here where I live. Right there where you live! Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Here – on earth – where His Will is done, – here is Heaven on Earth!

Lord, as I love in gratitude for this place where I live and for its people, help me strive (yes, even strain) to make “IT” a more heavenly place. Let the peace of Christ rule in my heart – and let thankfulness for today and bright hope for tomorrow radiate from my life through YOU. In Christ’s Name I pray, Amen!
