The Genius in You

It’s a Shame!

It’s a shame we can’t always
feel our creative juices flowing.
It’s a shame sometimes
we sit there knowing
locked inside are
words of wonder –
rolling, rocking,
sounding thunder.

It’s a shame the words
can’t come out,
can’t take a bow
and start to shout;
can’t let the world know
without a doubt,
there’s a genius
locked inside!

It’s a shame!

Vibrancy After the Awakening

Awakening to the coming of death
Is a True Awakening experience.
Much as I love the colors of autumn,
I realize these leaves are on their way out.

The vibrancy of fall leaves
Reminds me of the sudden, unexpected
Alertness of both my parents
Just before they left this earth.

Dad was unable to speak,
But his face shone and a tear
Trickled down his cheek as
He blinked in response to my question.

He squeezed my hand and blinked
When I asked him, “Will I see you
When I get to Heaven someday?”
That affirmation fills my heart always.

Mom was aware that she was breathing
Her last earthly breaths when she whispered,
“Go home. You have a big day tomorrow.
You need your rest. I am ready to go!”

Even though I tried to convince her
That it doesn’t work that way,
That God doesn’t take orders, and she
Can’t tell him, “Get my room ready!”

She knew. She was ready. And He better
Come now  – – – and have that spot for her
Next to her beloved husband of 60 years
Ready for her heavenly occupancy.

Sure enough. I received a call saying
She had breathed her last breath
That night – and her True Awakening
Was in that room – ready and waiting.

Mom and Dad are as vibrant today
As the bright orange aspen in autumn.
The blink, the squeeze, and the last of
The Mother-Daughter instructions live on!

Go home! You have a big day tomorrow.
You need your rest, so be prepared.
Get the room ready… guests are coming.
And you must be prepared for their

True Awakening!

A Perfect Life…With You

via A Perfect Life…With You…  What happened to this blogger? I love his writing. He started in 2012 about the same time I did. But, now I miss his writing. Come back!

Is Contentment a Worthy Goal?

Carving out time to

Own a beautiful home

Neatly placed at

The end of a rabbit-bush lane

Energized my early years.

Now that I have it, I

Thought I’d be content.

My goal has been met.

Every day I can look at life with

Newness; ready to

Take on a new goal.

Do or die!

Cristian is one of my favorite bloggers. His words cut deep. His words lift. His words make me think. Sometimes I actually act as a result of his encouragement. Maybe maybe tomorrow I’ll actually use my gym membership!

Feeling Buried?

John 12:24-25

“Listen carefully! Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal.” (Eugene H. Peterson’s The Message translation)

In the eye of the storm, Hurricane Florence is burying houses, trees, streets, electrical connections, pig farms, and even people … in their homes, in their cars and pickups, on their escape routes. This scripture from John 12 reminds me that being buried, even if it means death to this earthly life, can result in eternal life – or at least a better life.

But, we don’t have to encounter a hurricane to feel buried. We can be buried by trouble, strife, grief, disillusionment, disappointment, greed. We can be buried by fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of inadequacy.

John 12 asks us to listen carefully. Jesus is reminding His followers that we cannot avoid change – and when we try to do so – when we “hold on to life just as it is,” we destroy life. So, we are told to let it go. Go with the flow. Even the flow of flooding that threatens to drown us. Go with it… float the flood! Know that trouble is guaranteed, but trouble is temporary.

Look beyond the turmoil of today. Look beyond yourself. Look to God for guidance and comfort and direction. Look for others who need you. Serve them as you follow Jesus’ example. God will help unbury you as you help unbury others.

Who can you help today?

Why Pray?

God directs your path

When you take time to listen

To His Voice in prayer.

Hah! You thought I was gonna write something about how God answers your needs when you speak to God in faith, right? Well, that’s true, too. Especially when you believe God is here; God hears; God loves you and wants what’s best for you; God answers.

But, the main reason I pray is not to speak and request. The main reason I pray is to listen. In my silence, God speaks to my heart.

My day goes better if I take time to hear God’s Guidance before I begin the hard task of living intentionally today.

Prayer is not a one-way street. We are never alone when we pray. As Charles Stanley wrote in his devotional for today’s reflection “In Touch” magazine, prayer is “… a divine appointment with Almighty God.”

Do you keep that appointment daily? Do you invite the Holy Spirit in? Do you listen and absorb as the Creator creates in you a new spirit of love, joy and peace to guide today’s footsteps?

Take time to pray before you begin each day. Take time to listen. Keep that divine appointment!

God bless you.

Fettuccine Fantasy

Do you have any food fantasies?

Is there a food group that shows up in your dreams?

Candy? That’s a food group, isn’t it?

I have a friend in my TOPS group (that’s my support group of friends who also are trying to “Take Off Pounds Sensibly”). My friend fantasizes about candy. It’s her downfall. With Halloween on its way next month, she’s already worried about how many pounds she’ll gain when those triangular yellow and orange candy corns tempt her from that bowl on her kitchen counter.

Not me! Candy – even the chocolate variety – can sit on my kitchen counter for weeks. I’d rather have fresh, green vegetables.

But don’t get me wrong. That doesn’t mean I don’t have my caloric downfalls. I’m no pure and disciplined vegetarian. Besides peanut butter filled pretzels, sesame breadsticks, and real buttered popcorn, my BIGGEST downfall is pasta!

What do you expect? My paternal grandmother came from Italy and made gnocchi from scratch.

My Aunt Genevieve made her own pesto sauce and my Aunt Angie made the most delicious pizzas you’d ever hope to savor.

Aunt Marie made homemade fettuccine. I dream of Aunt Laura’s shrimp fettuccine! Bring on the carbs!

Last night our dear neighbors treated us to dinner. He ordered a beautiful, healthy lean steak with fresh green veggies cooked just right – crisp tender.

Did I select something lean or green? By no means!

Mmm! Shrimp Fettuccine with tomato basil sauce – and of course, an extra helping of French bread smothered with real butter!

How am I going to take off pounds sensibly when I order that kind of a meal and literally lick the plate (no, I didn’t!). Really, I soaked up the last of the sauce with an extra piece of French bread. It’s okay, friends. It was a small piece!

What makes your mouth water? What’s your food fantasy? I bet it’s not candy corn!

In the Eye of the Storm

PEACE

In the eye of the storm, the wisest people of the Carolinas are letting everything go. I read in one of my devotionals this morning a quote from C. Joybell C., “… the day I knew peace was the day I let everything go.”

Hurricane Florence is thrashing the already battered east coast near Wrightsville Beach with strong winds (92-100 mph) and heavy rains that could trigger catastrophic floods inland. People who value their lives more than their things are evacuating (or already have).

Things can become so important to us that we risk our lives to protect them. Oh, I know, there are many reasons residents in the eye of the storm have chosen to stay put. Not all are for the love of their things. But, by putting too much importance on things, we also risk our peace of mind.

C. Joybell C. suggests that letting things go is a pathway to peace of mind.

Value life most. Know peace.

Ponder it. What things would you stay to protect in the eye of the storm?

Can you “let everything go?”
