Ace the Course

Happy Sunday, my friends. Did you get a chance to go to church? Our sermon today at Madison Valley Presbyterian in Ennis, MT was based on the Good Samaritan story in Luke 10:25-37 and the questions, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” and “Who is my neighbor?”

You all know the story of the Good Samaritan, so you may be wondering as I did, “How can there be a new twist on this old scripture lesson?”

Well, these are my poetic notes as I listened and recorded my “Take-aways” from today’s sermon, titled “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

ACE THE COURSE

What do I have to do
To ace the course?
Depends on the
Course, of course!

What do I have to do
To get to Heaven?
Ah, that course requires
Forgiveness – more than 70×7.

What do I have to do
To forgive and to love
As was demonstrated
By our Lord above?

I need to love
My neighbors ALL.
Who are my neighbors?
Whom should I call?

Call on the needy.
Call on the one in the ditch.
Call on the leper –
Help him scratch his itch!

Call on the lowly,
The good-for-nothing guys.
Don’t limit your call
To the powerful and wise.

Call on the lazy ones.
Call on the poor of heart.
Call on the merciless –
That’s the place to start.

If you wanna ACE
The course to Eternity,
You gotta reach out
And do good to ALL for FREE.

Don’t reach out for gain.
Don’t expect your reward to start.
You’re in this course to gain
An A+ with your loving heart!

BEE the LOVE

See ya tomorrow.

See ya tomorrow.

Montana Beauty

Montana Beauty

Montana grass:mountains:sky

I don’t know who took this photo
(I’ll let you know if I find out),
but isn’t it gorgeous?

That’s the Madison Range seen from our Madison Valley.
The prominent mountain is called “The Sphinx.”
From angles farther north, the two parts of it seem joined
and the front looks like the face of the Sphinx
(hence its name).

This view is about 20 miles south of our house.
We see it from this angle
when we go out four-wheeling on our ATV.

Anyway, I just wanted you to see it.
Too pretty not to share!

Have a great Sunday morning.

Rest

Rest

(A Haiku for you)

There’s a time for rest

Clouds gather fiercely outside

Enjoy the sofa!

How inviting is your sofa on a cloudy day
with rain threatening and thunder clapping?

I’m headed there now.

Place of Peace

Place of Peace

From my place of Peace

I hear the whippoorwill’s song

A very good day

I have you in prayer.

You have a very good day, too, okay?

Soar with your own song!

God bless you.

It Was A Very Good Year

It Was A Very Good Year

When I was simply one

It was a very good year

Whene’er I’d shed a tear

I’d know my mom would be near

When I was simply one.

When I turned a lively two

It was a very good year

My lazy eye was patched

My itchy spots were scratched

When I grew to a lively two.

When I was three or four

It was a very good year

We ventured out lots more

Didn’t have a care in store

When I was three or four

Then I was twenty-three

It was a very tough year

Someone looked up to me

I was no longer free

When I was twenty-three.

When I was fifty-five

It was a challenging year

My family came alive

I had nowhere to hide

When I was fifty-five.

And when I’m ninety-four

It will be a wonderful year.

I’ll be full of smiles and cheer

And glad to still be here

When I am ninety-four.

When I am old and gray

And memories fade away,

I’ll cherish love brought my way.

I’ll not regret the strife –

It is a very good life!

May sweet friends sing to you

and hug and surround you

with love and more

When you are ninety-four!

God bless each day, each month, each year of your life.

Don’t let any of them get you down, break your heart, or find you wishing them away. Treasure each one so you, too, can say not just:

It was a very good year!

but…

It is a very good life!

See ya tomorrow.

What’s a Metaphor for Your Heart?

What’s a Metaphor for Your Heart?

My heart is a jigsaw puzzle

Each piece fits in its own place

There is a huge place that only God can fill

No other piece fits

And I’d feel an enormous emptiness

Without Him in my heart.

God is the love piece
That fills me with compassion
I pray you’ve found Him

Here is an old treasure of mine:

Copyrighted in 1906 – and
given as a gift in 1908,
the year my mother-in-law was born.

This wonderful old book helps me focus on God’s puzzle piece each morning before I leave my sanctuary and face the challenges of the day. My mother-in-law found it at a “Flea Market” in California back in the 1960s and bought it for a dollar. I inherited it from her. It’s priceless! I love reading its daily prayers.

Today’s prayer spoke to that God place in my heart:

This is my prayer for you on this 12th day of July.
The “dead” to whom it refers are
the hardened of heart.
The ones who haven’t filled that God-space yet.
I am certain that’s not you, my friend!
May your loving, soft heart be refreshed today!
Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.

What’s your heart’s metaphor?

All I’ve Got

What Do You Have to Give?

Rick Warren wrote in his Angel Stadium declaration,
“Because this life is preparation for the next,
I will value worship over wealth,
‘we’ over ‘me’,
character over comfort,
service over status,
and people over possessions, position, and pleasures.
I know what matters most
and I’ll give it all I’ve got.
I’ll do the best I can
with what I have for Jesus Christ today.”

All I need is love.

All I have to give is love.

I’ll give it all I’ve got!
