Where Ya Lookin’?

Where are you looking?
Let’s forget the former things –
Don’t dwell on the past.

Remember the good,
Learn from all of your troubles,
And focus on the now.

Strength and Grace,
a daily devotional from Guideposts,
is one of my morning rituals.
My last post, “Whatever is Lovely,”
also was inspired by this publication.

Today I am exploring
the subjects of love and memory,
and asking myself,
“Where ya lookin’?”

I am remembering the time
I was lookin’ to the right
when I shoulda been lookin’
straight ahead.
I walked into our car’s hatchback.
It was comin’ down –
and obviously I didn’t realize it!!

I am remembering the time
I was dashing out of the car
to go into a local restaurant
to meet my granddaughter
and her children.
I was looking ahead
when I should have been
looking down … at my feet …
at the curb.
I tripped over it.
Broke my pinky finger big time!

Ouch!
I am remembering the time
I was stepping up into the house
from the garage
and I didn’t step up far enough.
I fell backward and hit my head
on the metal hitch of the trailer.
Eight stitches later
I shoulda been lookin’
where I was steppin’!!

Look up for your purpose!

There’s a time to look up.
There’s a time to look back.
There’s a time to look ahead.
But ALL THE TIME we should
Look out! Look at the NOW.
Live in the present –
And look to live longer,
healthier, happier, safer.

Slow Down for Your Life!
And look where you are going.
Where are you looking?

Father, in Your mercy, rescue me
from myself, from my carelessness.
Help me look to You for guidance
and help me slow down,
live in the now,
and watch where I’m goin’!
Amen

Have a blessed day!

Slow Down!

I’ve been telling myself – and you – to have faith,
To step out in faith and begin a new journey.
I’ve been telling myself to lean in and listen
To what God is whispering to me.

Well, He has been telling me to slow down.
“Stop and watch where you are going.
Slow down and move more intentionally.
Sit in the boat awhile – enjoy how life’s flowing.”

Looks like I did that for awhile, right?
But then I stepped on shore, running –
Flitting from one spot to the next,
I didn’t stop to just enjoy the sunning!

In April I fell and broke a finger.
In June I tripped and bruised my knee.
And yesterday I fell over backward –
Needed stitches to the head – Woe is me!!

Not a pretty sight!

I was dashing from garage to house
Carrying groceries in three sacks.
I couldn’t see my feet, so missed the step,
Lost my balance, and fell flat on my back!

My head hit the hitch on the trailer
And gashed my scalp an inch wide,
Two inches long – requiring 8 stitches-
More hurt than my head was my pride!

So the Lord said, “Third time’s the charm.
Be humble and listen to me please.
Be wise about what you carry and where you step –
People can die with falls like these!”

Okay, dear God, I got the message!
Slow down and watch where you walk!
Carry with your good hand, not your left…
Eyes open, steps secure, mind your own talk!

I’m sharing this advice with you, friends,
Because I hope you are wiser than I.
I hope you don’t have to have three mishaps
Before you heed the warning and comply!

SLOW DOWN AND WATCH WHERE YOU’RE GOING!!

My Daughter#2, Laina, sent me this poem
after hearing this morning
about what happened:

Oh my! Remember this?
Walked into the closing hatchback on our car!!
Slow learner I am!

Yes, indeed!
I need to slow down and watch where I’m going…
How about you??

See ya tomorrow (God willing)
Love,

Send Me An Angel

Send Me an Angel

Here I am! In the land of the morning star,
Will you send me an angel?
Wise men said, “Just raise your hand
And reach out… hear the voice from deep inside…
Close your eyes and you will find
Your way out of the dark.”
Here I am – in the land of the morning star.

A blogging friend posted this YouTube video yesterday morning.
Yesterday afternoon I needed a guardian angel to catch me before I fell.
It was a weird accident. I guess most accidents are.
I was just turning to head out of my kitchen and my sandal turned
before I did… and my body lunged sideways, banging my head on the log post.
I thought my guardian angel musta been working overtime elsewhere.

I gashed my head open – about a 2 inch gash – requiring four stitches.
Bob & I spent the afternoon in the emergency room at our local medical center.
So, that’s why I didn’t get this blog posted yesterday.

But, I am okay… and I guess my guardian angel was with me after all.
The CT scan showed no internal brain bleed. Could have been worse!
Keep me in your prayers, will ya? Weird falls are the #1 reason folks my age
end up in the emergency room… and it’s not my favorite place to be!

And beware those sharp turns in your kitchen! Oy Vey!!
