4-Wheeling in Montana

Today was a beautiful blue-sky day
to go 4-Wheeling on LUCILLE
(our red-headed ATV who is a BALL)

Macatee put-in

We drove in our pick-up pulling Lucille on a trailer
to the Macatee Bridge area about 25 miles south of Ennis.
There we met friends, unloaded the ATVs
and headed up into the Gravelly Range
past the Talc Mine.

Bob -ATV

talc mine

The day could not have been more beautiful!

Sign- Gravelly Range

We had our bear spray with us.
We were headed to the Cottonwood area
where a couple of hunters
were mauled by Grizzleys last week.

6 guys - ATV
There were 6 guys (That’s Bob on the right)
and 3 of us gals

Usies - Jan-Barb-Caroline
Yes, when we got up to 8,000 ft. level at the look out,
it was time to bundle up!
I covered my ears,
Barb covered her neck,
and Caroline covered her head and neck!

Charley on overlook

Barb’s dog, Charley, was not afraid of the cliffs.

TazE in Gravelies-rocky
Our TazE stuck mostly to the rocky lower levels.
Both dogs enjoyed the freedom to explore.

Our goal was to see the Aspen gold-
Autumn in the Rocky Mountains is a spectacular time of year.
The landscape became more beautiful the farther up we traveled.

Wow - Aspen in Autumn

This is what we traveled up the Gravelly Range to the Ruby Valley to see!!

When we got up to Monument Ridge at 9,587 feet,
it was gorgeous, but really cold as the wind
came right off the left-over snow
on the higher mountains.

Black Butte had snow tucked in all its crevices.

Caroline bundled up to stay warm.

Coming back down, we made a potty stop and let the pups do a little more roaming.

ATVs @ bathroom stop

Barb, Don & Charley were ready to be on our way.

Barb & Charley in ATV

We passed at least two dozen of these harvested tree stacks
on our way to and fro.
The forest service has been very busy
cutting down dead trees and clearing out areas
near the road that might cause a fire hazard.

Red barn - Ruby River
Besides the gorgeous golden aspen groves,
my other favorite scene is this red barn on the Ruby River.
Isn’t it gorgeous?

We passed some grazing cattle
before following the signs and our friend, Chuck,
who led us back to our vehicles
where we loaded the ATVs and headed home.

See the cool beaver dam we passed on the way down?

Back down in the Madison Valley,
the Madison River,
and the Macatee take-out,
we were ready to return home
and share our great trip with you.

Hope you enjoyed it.
Have a good night.
The End - Lucille
The End!

Montana Adventure

Today was a perfect day to take Lucille (Our ATV with a red head who is a Ball), And go up into the mountains – Up on Mt. Baldy, more than 10,000 feet tall!
On our way up to Mt. Baldy (10K ft ahead of us)
Lucille is a trooper with Bob at the wheel. TazE loves riding with us on the mountain trails. Some of the roads are so rough, I cringe, But I am happy to have an “Oh My!” bar instead of wails.
Hang tight to the “Oh My!” bar. Secure TazE with her leash.
TazE crowded me as she leaned out the window of Lucille
Going with friends makes it extra fun; Five guys and three gals in five 4-wheelers. The area in the Tobacco Root Mountains Is full of rough terrain, rocks and squealers.
Me (Jan) with Caroline & Penny
Bob, Rex, Gene, BW and Chuck
The views from up on top of Baldy Are breathtaking to be sure. The sky was a little hazy today, But the air was clean and pure.
Gene, with a recent new knee, made the rigorous climb from our ATVs to the top of the mountain (a steeper climb than it looks here!)
We were above the snow level Where the clouds seem so close We felt like we could touch them. I have more pictures than I can post!
Our lovely, protected setting for lunch on top of Mt. Baldy
The view from my lunch spot
Dilapidated old mining building
Over my right shoulder a dilapidated mine Indicated that people once lived and worked In this place miles from civilization – For gold, lead, silver and copper – no one shirked.
Old mining site on Mt. Baldy
Old mines dotted the trail as we headed down. I wished those old beams and rocks could talk. They would have wonderful stories to tell – Lived through many a death and untold shocks.
Jan in Bob’s fishing cap
On down the mountain on rocky trails, We were careful to not tip over the edge. The paths were narrow with no side rails – I held TazE and tried not to look at the ledge!
Bob driving Lucille – in a rocky spot with a wider ledge than most
Bob, Jan, TazE – top of Mt. Baldy
Old mine on Mt. Baldy
Ennis Lake from the Tobacco Roots to the Madison Range
We tried to stay in view of the Polaris Traveling on the trail in our lead, But we didn’t want to be too close To eat his dust as he picked up speed. That’s our Madison Valley and Ennis Lake In the middle of this view. As we headed back, the sun was warmer And we wished we could share this trip with YOU!

Thank you for visiting JanBeek Come back soon for more adventures and inspiration.

See Ya Tomorrow!

Today is my Happy Day!

Today is a good day to be alive!

I get to go out four-wheeling in the mountains with friends.

Bob is going fishing – and I don’t drive the four-wheeler.

I could, but only to the grocery store and back on flat, back roads.

Not on rough, rocky, twisty-turny steep and dangerous mountain trails!

Well, they don’t have to be dangerous… but they woud be if I was driving!

So, a friend whose wife is choosing to go to a meeting instead of going ATVing

Has invited me to occupy his empty seat in his Polaris Ranger side-by-side.

We’ll be with a few other “Happy, Warm, and Genuine People.”

Stay tuned for pictures. It should be a beautiful day!

heart of love
See ya later!
