My middle name is Laura.
I was named after one of my dad’s sisters (Aunt Laura).
Twenty-one years later,
it ended up being the name
of my mother-in-law
(Laura Belle).
And eight years later,
we named our daughter DeAna Laura.
The name Laura is the feminized form of laurus, Latin for “bay laurel plant”, which in the Greco-Roman era was used as a symbol of victory, honor or fame. The name represents the embodiment of victory and strength.
In British North America, the name Laura reached 17th most popular in 1880 and 1882, but dropped to #43 in 1899. It was among the top 50 names for female newborns for much of the early 20th century in the United States, but dropped to No. 100–120 between 1930 and 1950; reached No. 10 in 1969, and has since steadily decreased in popularity.
In Europe, Laura remains popular.
In 2009 it ranked within the top 10
in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia,
Greenland, Luxembourg, Spain, and Switzerland.
(Isn’t that interesting, given the fact that
DeAna Laura now lives in Switzerland?)
Here is my mother-in-law, Laura Belle
with our daughter, DeAna Laura.
(That was almost 50 years ago!)
Two very precious ladies
of victory and strength!
What is your middle name?
And what significance does it have?
Cheers to you
from Janet Laura & DeAna Laura

Thanks for sharing the meaning! I can only say my name came from a baby name booklet . Guess what, I have the booklet! Surprise surprise!
Precious possession! Your middle name is?
Not sure of any significance, but my mom was very pleased about spelling my middle name, Anne, with the “e”.
Have you watched the Netflix series, Anne with an E”? It’s really engaging!
My niece’s name is Laura 😍😍😍 it’s a really beautiful name 💛
And how about yours, DiDi? And what’s DiDi a nickname for? Our DeAna Laura is DeDe!
I don’t have a middle name, that is rarely given here in Croatia, but my real name is Dijana 🫶
Hah! You have our nicknames, my daughter (De) and mine (Jan) in your name. I love it!!
💛💛💛💛💛💛
Dijana, pronounced Dee-YA-na 🤗
Ah… Yawn … how pretty, Dijana!!
I guess my middle name, John, was named for my paternal grandfather, known as Jack
Interesting! Bob’s dad’s nickname was “Jack” also, but his God-given was Clarence William. Interesting what people do with names, isn’t it? Good morning, Derrick John 🤗 Have a great weekend! ❤️
You, too, Jan
You, too, Jan Laurie
Laura, of course
HI there-mine is May-after mum’s mother, also my aunt had that for a middle name and her great-grandaughter has it for a first name.
Who’s “Anonymous”?
Names can be a fascinating journey. My middle name (Glenn) is rather insignificant in how it was chosen. Of course, it sounds more forceful when paired with my first name (Richard), and my mother uses them together as back in my youth. My Dad’s middle name is my first name, and my Mom’s middle name (Mae) is her paternal grandmother’s name.
Quite interesting! Thanks for sharing.
