Tears of Joy

Daily writing prompt
What brings a tear of joy to your eye?

Tears of joy come easily
When someone approaches me breezily
To say my lost puppy is found
And they have him right there on the ground

Tears of joy come spilling
When someone says they are willing
To do some yard work for my Bob
Whose limited body makes me sob

Tears of joy are a blessing
When troubles overflow and I’m stressing
And then miraculous help arrives
Fixing the problem … giving high-fives

What brings tears of joy to your eyes?
Crying is a gift to the wise
Who turn to others and prayer
Knowing that needed help is there.

Where do you turn so that you can have
Tears of joy and turn sadness to glad?
Know that the Lord always is there
You can count on Him everywhere!

Happy Labor-less Day, my friends!

Love,
JanBeek & Bob

(and our friends, the Vasches, too… we have
tears of joy when friends like them come to visit!)

  1. At first, I thought the subject was a tough one. Recently, I have had two close friends pass away. One guy I knew since the third grade. He live around the corner from me in San Mateo. His folks moved after his sixth grade year. They upgraded from a post world war II home, to a really nice Brady bunch home on the hill behind sugar loaf mtn, in Belmont. Kevin wasn’t one for putting out a lot of effort in his life. He drifted. Got into drugs and alcohol as a fourteen year old. Eventually going to SF State and got his BA & MS in English, then had to get a nursing degree so he could eat. He stayed at that for less than a decade and started to drift again. Married with three kids, he barely got the bills paid. When he lost his job, fortunately his kids were on their own, but sadly faced with a financial crisis, rather than work, his wife divorced him. We reconnected about 15 months ago. Living outside of Denver, I visited with him for a day. He had prostate cancer. I told him what I had done, even fixing up a yogurt to mix in the dog medicine. He did it for a couple weeks, then stopped. He got progressively worse, as it spread to his bones, then his organs. He lost his match against himself, as the Almighty slapped his hand on the mat, and he was gone. A brother from different mothers, Kevin was an enigma to me. Our grade school principal told me Kevin was trouble and I needed a better class of friends. He said Kevin was lazy and never amount to much. In the end, our principal, Mr. Copeland, was right. But forever more, Kevin was my childhood friend. Thou he was in a lot of pain, I have shed a few tears of joy, knowing he’s no longer hurting. But, I will miss him.
My other friend, Bill passed, a few weeks ago. He had COVID a few times despite taking the vaxx. He also had cancer and pneumonia. They took him off the ventilator and he was gone. He no longer suffers. Bill and I were friends for over twenty five years, meeting at the engineering company in Napa.
I’m at the age where friends begin to leave this world as we get closer to the end, than we are the beginning.
If you are still hear, Thank you for reading this rant. It’s something I needed to get off my chest.

    • Thanks for venting, Peter. You have such a big & caring heart. 💔 Easily broken, but easily lifted in love, too. Each of us who are privileged to call you friend are blessed.

  2. Tears of joy with each new boy.
Our hearts are full, our love abound.
    There is nothing like having
    our grandchildren around. 💕
    Love you!
