GirlieOnTheEdge invites us every week to “Write 6 Sentences.
No more. No less.
Use the current week’s prompt word.”
Today’s prompt word is “Trick.”
Here goes:
The innocence of young children captivates my heart.
Halloween is a time when a test on the innocence might start.
When children are introduced to “Trick or Treat,” treats are expected.
Some years ago tricks were handed out – no innocence respected.
There were apples with a razor inside, or popcorn balls with poison inserted.
Many children have had to stop the door-to-door so danger was skirted.
Let’s just love, shall we?
Protect the innocence.
Love,
JanBeek

Good reminder that some treats are poisonous tricks.
Too bad, huh? But in our community, a Halloween Festival is held in the school gymnasium- and all the treats are safe. Also, Montana’s weather in late Oct. can be brutal for the outdoor activities.
Trick or Treating brings out the youth in all of us. It’s fun to hand out treats to trick or treaters and glimpse at their costumes . We usually hand out treats versus tricks because kids love to count their treats. At the end of the night, trick or treaters gather to trade their favorite candy with others. I tricked them by morning because their count decreased somehow especially those mini 3 musketeer bars.Happy Halloween to all the trick or treaters!
Yes, it was one of my favorite holidays as a kid 👌🏽❤️
I lived a blissful childhood. We didn’t know about trick or treat back then. But gradually television and what seems to be Australia’s blanket acceptance of American culture has destroyed all that I remember.
That’s too bad!
popcorn with poison inserted or apple with razor inside…thats mighty evil
Yes, it’s unimaginable, isn’t it?
In all of my 65 years, I have heard the same stories at Halloween- and never an incidence to substantiate the claim. I hope the trend continues!
I pray there is no substantiation, too!
I’ve only ever thought of it as innocent fun, I had no idea of its darker side. I’m in total agreement with your final few words.
People here only hand out pre-packed wrapped candy, so the children can go door to door safely. If the light is on at the front door, you can expect a treat.
That’s what the Trick or Treating has evolved to: prepackaged treats! I miss the popcorn balls!!
Well written Jan. Behind the darkness lies the innocence of a child, which must always be nurtured with love.
God bless all those nurturers out there!!
Around here, the kids go to the Mall, or to local church lots for trunk-or-treat. Can’t be too careful!
I enjoy seeing all the littles in their costumes. We only hand out the pre-wrapped candies, and people will only accept those (unless it’s from a good friend), so no more apples or popcorn balls.
