In the Shadow…

Ps. 17:8
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
    hide me in the shadow of your wings

The smiling face below belongs to our interim pastor, Brian Conklin, who delivered a beautiful sermon Sunday inspired by the prayer of David found in Psalm 17. I posted my sermon notes here and then (while messing around on WordPress on my phone), I accidentally erased the post. Some of my friends saw it before the mishap, I hope. Anyway… heeeeeere’s Brian…

And heeeere’s “A prayer of David”

Hear me, Lord, my plea is just;
    listen to my cry.
Hear my prayer—
    it does not rise from deceitful lips.
Let my vindication come from you;
    may your eyes see what is right.

Though you probe my heart,
    though you examine me at night and test me,
you will find that I have planned no evil;
    my mouth has not transgressed.
Though people tried to bribe me,
    I have kept myself from the ways of the violent
    through what your lips have commanded.
My steps have held to your paths;
    my feet have not stumbled.

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
    turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show me the wonders of your great love,
    you who save by your right hand
    those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
    hide me in the shadow of your wings

from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
    from my mortal enemies who surround me.

Heaven knows, I need to be one of those protected chicks under “the shadow of your wings!”

Can’t redo what I lost… Need to get to bed.
Oh well…

See ya tomorrow. It’ll be a better day.

Love,
JanBeek

  1. Amen

  2. Bad luck. What remains here is a fine prayer

  3. So sorry that you lost that initial inspiration… I know how that feels, it can never be recreated from the first flow… But those words above are inspiring and a heartfelt prayer Jan…
    And your image of the chicks under their mothers wing shows perfectly the message of protection..

    Sending you much love and many blessings dearest Jan xx <3 🙏💖

    • Thank you very much, Sue. So glad to see you back on-line. Very sorry about your flood and loss, but happy that you are recuperating and back to sharing your blessings with this WordPress family! Much love and many blessings to you!

  4. Dear Jan. I read the text from Psalm 17.
    Hear my prayer—
    it does not rise from deceitful lips.
    How often have I been unable to say the same thing. I feel that I have been deceitful to the Lord for all my life. I am 82 and I do so hope He will forgive me my deceitfulness.

    • Of course He forgives all who seek His forgiveness. And like you, yes – I need it every day! Thank God we don’t think we’re perfect, huh? What a lie that would be!!

  5. A great post, Jan! I love those verses!
