We seldom see moose in our neighborhood during the day. They sometimes come down out of the mountains at night to nibble on our evergreens when their natural habitat up in the Gravellies or the Madison Range is snow covered. But this guy showed up in broad daylight.

He had a ragged spot in his back and a bum leg. Probably had been injured by some other animal that attacked him.
After I got Kenny back inside, Bob & I chased the young moose off to the neighbor’s. He was nibbling on our trees! Fortunately, after I contacted the neighbor and explained, he called the animal protective services. Hopefully they came to help… I don’t want to think about how.
What do you think?

Love, JanBeek

How very special to have a moose visitor. I do hope that he was cared for and protected!
They probably put him out of his misery! That’s what usually happens with an injured animal.
Dislike 😢
I know… makes me sad, too. It’s why we didn’t call them!
Working for the US fish and wildlife service, we took calls on injured animals. Depending on the situation, we would either let nature take its course or tranquilize the animal and take it to a vet for treatment then after rehab, wed release it back where it was found. If this guy was walking, we might just leave it alone, if it was having a difficult time, it’s treatment and rehab. In the hills, it’s prey. Down by the houses, it’s relatively protected, sort of a sanctuary. It needs nourishment and safety to heal. Let’s pray that God’s healing power from the beekmans garden is just the ticket this poor creature needs right now.
Gee thanks a lot! I like your strategy, Peter.
