Written in 2018 … as true and pertinent today as it was 4 years ago. Maybe more so!
When your hair is sparkling silver
And your chest is wrinkled skin,
How can your life be useful?
How can you keep your grin?
I’ll tell you all my secret –
It’s not too hard to know.
You have to find your niches
And stay useful as you grow.
You can’t let age impale you
And make you feel extinct.
You have to keep on growing
And keep your life distinct!
So find out where your passions
Lead you to volunteer –
And soon skin and hair tone
Will bring you cause to cheer!
It’s only when we’ve given
A life of service sincere
That we can join the chorus
In a heartfelt round of cheer.
We must resolve to remain useful.
We must share our time with glee.
Then the outer image fades away,
And our joy is all they see!

I agree with you. I read somewhere, we should grow through life and not go through it.

A wonderful poem. We can all be useful, it’s just a matter of finding a service that makes us happy. It is hard to feel useless when you bring smiles to others. Your poem made me smile this morning. Thank you for posting it again. 🤗❤️🙏

Thank you for your kind comment. WordPress reminded me of the post by putting it at the bottom of my post a couple days ago. They are doing that lately: choosing past posts with the same tags and featuring them at the bottom of the current post. I think that’s cool. Are they doing that for you, too?

I just love that poem. I had to read it three times. You have certainly lived by your own advice! I hope to be as useful as you, especially when I’m in my 80s. You are my inspiration MomBee! 😍

Amen! Our mature years share God’s grace through our service to others. After all, one of our biggest resources is our time. May we continue to use it for God’s glory.
