Where do you get your marching orders each day?
As I sit in my sanctuary praying, listening, reading, and reflecting, the plan for my day materializes.
Today God spoke to me through the words of Paul in Colossians 3:12-14 – “…holy and dearly beloved, clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience… forgive … put on love, which binds us together in perfect unity.”
Okay, Lord. I hear you. I am ready to follow those “marching orders” today … and to let Your Peace wash over me.

I sometimes think I don’t hear ANYTHING…heh… in one ear and out the other…
I understand. I have to turn up my hearing aids.
We may not really think it about it like this, but as Christians we have a lot in common with soldiers. For instances, soldiers don’t seek to protect their own interest but of their country. There is no place for egos, pride and selfishness on the battlefield. What matters is obeying the commands of the Commander.
I thought about when Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:3-4). Of course, there is the desire of the soldiers to go home. The soldiers aren’t just military, they are mothers, fathers, a sister, mother, wife, husband. As soldiers of the Kingdom, we desire to be with our King.
As Christians the gospel is worth fighting for and dying for (Revelation 12:11). As Servants of God we press through our present hardships with our eyes fixed on our home–and the Lord. We fight knowing we don’t fight against flesh and blood but against rulers of darkness of this ae and spiritual wickedness (Ephesians 6:11). We have a promise from Jesus that gates of hades will not prevail against His church (Matthew 16:18). We are encouraged by what Paul said, to live is Christ and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21).
In the military you need a buddy in the battle. The same is true in the Kingdom. The enemy attempts to isolate and deceive humanity into thinking we can live independently. It’s something hear often? We desire to live for ourselves and consider God to be optional and try to sidestep being a Servant. Have you ever heard, “God and me have this private relationship?” The scriptures doesn’t support them. There is no such thing as maverick Christianity, when God saves us He calls us into community (Acts 2:47). God doesn’t save us and just leave us here waiting on the rapture–discipling no one, mentoring no one, not participating in evangelism.
As Christians we have received our marching orders: to make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). We should never forget on a daily basis our marching orders…the Great Commission.
